Salterns Way is an 18km cycle and wheelchair route from the centre of Chichester to the sand dunes of East Head. This new route follows quiet roads and cycle paths through the countryside. It has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is managed by Chichester Harbour Conservancy.

Chichester Harbour is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and remains relatively wild. Its wide expanses and intricate creeks are at the same time a major wildlife haven and among some of Britain’s most popular boating waters. Chichester Harbour has three main channels. The Emsworth Channel, the Thorney Channel and the Chichester Channel, which also branches off into the Bosham Lake and Itchenor Reach. It is a haven for more than 50,000 birds and its wildfowl and waders that use the mudflats to feed on the rich plant life and huge population of intertidal invertebrates.
